About Us
History
Monks Cross Shopping opened in September 1998 and now boasts some of the best retailers that the UK and beyond have to offer. What follows is a 'potted' history of where it all began...
Richardson Developments built the centre through 1997-98.
The contractor, Carillion, were the main contractors and the architects were Level 7. The project was programmed for 56 weeks but was finally handed over on the 10th September 1998 after only 46 weeks.
An integral part of the development are over 1000 free parking spaces located outside the doors of the fabulous stores. There are also purpose-built bus and cycle lanes which tie in nicely with City of York Councils 'green' Transport Plan. There is a Park & Ride site situated over the road from the shopping centre which has a further 500 car parking spaces. Monks Cross Shopping is a particularly pleasant place to shop, softened by the extensive landscaping. We look forward to welcoming you here.
